Global EMS Forum Webinar1

The last major Webinar Event was on Thursday 29 October 2009

October 29 - TRB Ambulance Transport Safety Summit
The Ambulance Transportation Safety Summit of the EMS Safety Subcommittee of the National Academies Transportation Research Board was presented on Thursday 29 October 2009, 1pm-5pm EST in Washington DC. This Summit was beamed live via Webinar and recorded electronically and a TRB e-circular of the Summit has been published. Access to the recordings are available in the downloads section.

This was a public access forum, on a first come first served basis for live participation. You do not need a headset or microphone as questions were by email and answers cab be heard via the audio link - see below

This forum & recordings are transmitted using the Global EMS Forum Elluminate software - see below

What is the Global EMS Forum?
The Global EMS Forum is a gathering together of like-minded health care professionals and providers caring for patients in the fields of pre-hospital, out-of-hospital, ambulance and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from diverse environments who believe that the interests of these patients are best served by shared experience, knowledge and practice between providers from different systems globally. The aim of this collaboration is to improve the care that can be provided to save life and prevent further injury or illness, and caring for those who are in urgent need. For more information: http://www.globalemsforum.org/

What is a WEBINAR?
The Global EMS Forum hosts a number of interactive, virtual, global electronic seminars each year - these are "Webinars" and it is possible for anyone anywhere in the world with an internet connection and a computer to participate in real time shared global dialogue on major issues involving EMS.

Webinars use Elluminate Live! software to provide your computer desktop with an interactive whiteboard, live video feed, simultaneous voice communication worldwide, real time text boxes for written comments and many other tools. You can see and hear other participants from all over the world. You need only an audio headset with a microphone. After installation you will be able to view recordings of earlier public Webinars on the Global EMS Forum website.

See a screenshot of the desktop view and functions: -

Are there other free WEBINARS available?
You can watch Webinars produced by many organisations (they are used by many universities for remote teaching).
The EMS Safety Foundation has recorded Webinars available for viewing at the bottom of its web page at http://www.emssafetyfoundation.org/

Elluminate broadcast free Webinars where you can just listen or take part in interactive traning sessions. These sessions are held frquently and are free of charge. You can find times and details at: http://www.elluminate.com/demos_events_landing.jsp

Do I need a webcam to participate?
You can actively participate without a webcam using the comment text box linked to all participants much like a group chat. Activity buttons allow you to raise your hand for questions, applaude and vote in a poll. You can use markers to draw and point to the white board or PowerPoint presentation on the screen and these markings will be seen worldwide in real time. If yo have a microphone or headset you can speak to the webinar participants from anywhere in the world. A group can watch the Webinar on a data projector with speakers (however the speakers need to be turned off to prevent feedback if any of your group are speaking).

Installation and Download Instructions for Live Sessions
(and recordings - which can be installed for immediate replay)  Elluminate Logo

IMPORTANT - You must download the Elluminate Live software and install the program on your computer in the days before the Live Webinar begins. This will give you the opportunity to test your audio connections before the Forum or take part in the free familiarisation sessions scheduled frequently by Elluminate. The audio setup is different on every computer - it is really important to allow some time ahead of the webinar to install and test the software. It is also worthwhile logging into the webinar for sound & video checks at least 30 minutes before the session begins. The Elluminate links are shown below:

If you are using Windows a thin warning banner may appear at the top of the webpage screen asking if you want to download the software - CLICK on the banner to continue the download. This banner may also appear everytime you start the Elluminate Live! software.
